Prof. Dr. Ayşe Altıntaş became a specialist in Neurology at Ege University in 1992, an Associate Professor in 1997, and a Professor in 2003 at Istanbul University, Cerrahpaşa Faculty of Medicine.
Between 1991 and 1992, she conducted research in neuroimmunology under the mentorship of Prof. Moses Rodriguez at the Mayo Clinic, where she worked on experimental models of multiple sclerosis (MS). For this work, she was awarded the Eczacıbaşı Medical Incentive Award. In 2001, she returned to the Mayo Clinic, where she collaborated with Prof. Dr. Claudia Lucchinetti and Prof. Dr. Brian Weinshenker on the neuroimmunopathological mechanisms of MS, radiological-pathological correlations, and the mechanisms of demyelination and remyelination.
Between 2005 and 2018, she served as a lecturer in the Neuroscience and Immunology Master’s and PhD programs at the Aziz Sancar Experimental Medicine and Research Institute.
Prof. Dr. Altıntaş has served for many years as a Board Member of the European Neuroimmunology School. She has also been a member of the BioMS-EU Working Group and previously served as the Coordinator of the Neuroimmunology Working Group of the Turkish Neurological Association. She currently serves as an Education Liaison in Neuroimmunology and Multiple Sclerosis within the European Academy of Neurology (EAN).
Her current research focuses on inflammatory demyelinating diseases of the central nervous system, particularly multiple sclerosis and neuromyelitis optica spectrum disorder (NMOSD). Her work primarily aims to elucidate disease mechanisms and identify potential biomarkers at the immunopathological level through integrated clinical and laboratory-based research.
Prof. Dr. Ayşe Altıntaş has been working in the Department of Neurology at Koç University Hospital since June 2018. She is currently the Director of the Demyelinating Central Nervous System Diseases Center at Koç University.
